Diverticulosis & Diverticulitis
Diverticulosis and Diverticulitis are conditions that occur in the large intestine. These are common conditions that primarily affect people over the age of 40 and 50% of people over 60 show signs of the disease.
Diverticulosis is when the wall of the large intestine forms weak spots, bulging outward and causing pockets. When these pockets become infected it is called diverticulitis. Symptoms may not be noticeable or may include abdominal pain, chills, cramping, fever, nausea or a change in bowel movements.
Fortunately there are many ways to treat these conditions, including:
- Increasing Fiber in Diet
- Antibiotics
- Bowel Rest
- Surgery
