Barrett’s Esophagus is when the cells in your esophagus are damaged by acid from your stomach. This condition is often related to acid reflux or gastroesophageal reflux (GERD) and can in some cases lead to esophageal cancer.
The first step in treatment is diagnosing the level of Barrett’s Esophagus present and then creating a treatment plan that can range from lifestyle changes to surgery.
Barrett’s Esophagus does not have symptoms, but frequent heartburn is a symptom of gastroesophageal reflux (GERD).
