Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction (SOD)
During the digestion process, the muscle called Sphincter of Oddi allows stored bile from your gallbladder to flow from your small intestine to your pancreas. Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction occurs when the muscle doesn’t open and close properly. Therefore, the bile and pancreas juice get backed up. Eventually, this will cause inflammation and severe pain if it’s not treated properly.
Symptoms of SOD
- Abdominal pain (the most common symptom)
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Fever
- Chills
- Diarrhea
